This is the OMNIBOT made by TOMI. This was a non-functioning robot before I started this modification. The electronic parts were either corroded, missing, or damaged, so were tossed. This is what the robot looked like prior to the modification and after it had been cleaned. I shall call him "MR. OMNI" the "OMNI-PUTER".

The base of "MR. OMNI" had seven wheels, four were removed as well as the gear drive box so the frosted plexiglass and mother board could be mounted. There were three mounting towers which helped to hold the base on with screws and wheel axle tabs that were removed with a dremel tool. The frosted plexiglas hides the scars from the modification.

This pile of parts represent the cassette player that was in the robot. I removed the cassette player and modified the the front panel to accept the
slimline CDRW-DVD. The mounting towers inside the cassette housing were cut short to allow the CDRW-DVD player to fit all the way in, but left long enough to support the drive once secured within the housing.

As you can see the drive fits snuggly for a clean modification.

The CDRW-DVD can be seen through the cutout in the former cassette player housing. The IBM TravelStar hard drive is attached to the lid (under) the CDRW-DVD drive housing.

The cooling fan is in the back (formally battery box) of the robot. The rubber seal between the base (with wheels) and base (with body) is removed. The system will work eith with or without the seal. There
are no overheating issues either way. The seal does make for a more secure attachment.

Here the rubber seal is in place. The cut outs for the motherboard connectors are visible. "MR. OMNI" is ready to "ROCK" as far as I am concerned. But if you take notice to the next photo "HE" has other plans.

BEWARE, OF WHAT YOU CREATE!! "MR. OMNI" wants cold cathode lighting and wireless and...the list goes on. I guess I'd better build a dog house next as it seems I may be there for quite a while.
